A prelockdown photo of Jeanette and I (above) running Daddy & Me together. Isn't it strange now to see pics of people sitting so close!
I wasn't sure how long it would be until we could get the Daddy & Me sessions up and running again. When the 'Rule of 6' was announced, I thought all was lost. But thankfully, we remain exempt and there isn't a limit on numbers for the sessions that I run; although, for safety (esp in the smaller room for Mums) we will limit to 8 couples.
My sessions are exempt from the rule of 6 as they come under the category of fitness classes, children's activities and support for parents. However, Covid restrictions are still strict so please remain 2m apart on your chair or mat as much as possible. Additionally, please wear a mask (unless exempt) if you are moving around; hand sanitiser will also be provided. (Risk assessment available on request; more info on covid measures here; refunds/transfers NOT available for this session but a 10% off voucher for another class is given to ease the pain if you miss out - full refund if the session doesn't run).
But what is a Daddy & Me session? I hear you cry!
Well - Daddies (or Aunties, Uncles, Grannies) are with me in the main hall on mats as per our usual class set up. We do Baby Yoga & Baby Massage (through clothes).
The focus is on baby brain development and solving common baby issues: tummy ache, snuffly nose or chest and so on.....Then there's lots of time to chat over refreshments. It gives Dads a chance to see what the 'baby class thing' is all about whilst also getting some focused time with their little one. Most Dads are a little bit nervous about being in a class setting but tend to support and encourage each other brilliantly through humour. I try to acknowledge how weird it can feel for them and help them relax too! The sessions are very informal and Dads can nip outside with their little one if bubs gets unsettled.
Mummies are just in the room next door- relaxing with candles, music, tea and cake. Plus, Jeanette will pluck you off one by one for 10 minutes of either Indian Head Massage or Neck/Shoulder/Back Massage (through clothes) in a secluded corner of the room.
Mums can discreetly peek into the Dad room by lifting the curtain of the viewing window. It would be much appreciated if Dads could ask Liz to fetch a Mum when needed (e.g for breastfeeding) to maintain social distancing guidelines.
Our Christmas themed session includes a Christmas Craft to make between the 3 of you and take home to keep.
